During the 9-day stay (from 23rd to 31st of July) participants have an opportunity to try traditional or unusual crafts and to listen to lectures given by people well-known in the environmental protection community. ”This year´s ecocamp is focused on the idea of voluntary frugality and practical examples on how to live in harmony with nature,“ explains Jozef Gaál from the organization Friends of the Earth - SPZ. “We have also prepared some work which would be useful for the local community and the whole country, such as helping at an ecofarm or building a wooden composting place for inhabitants of the village of Devičany.

The visitors can try to make a candle from bees wax, carve out a wooden spoon, build a straw house, weave straw decorations, make a practical basket from paper, knit wool and even cut grass with a hand scythe.

“Every evening will be spent with lectures and discussions about ecological lifestyle. For example about: how to stop harmful environmental activities around you, protection of trees, alternative architecture, ecoagriculture, waste, but also about corruption and abuse of power. The program is also full of trips, ecogames, learning about ourselves and sports games,“ says J. Gaál. He also adds that the ecocamp will be reflecting even on using ecological hygienic detergents. To be as close to nature as possible, everybody will be accommodated in their own tents or on straw in a barn.

Friends of the Earth – SPZ is a non-profit civil organization protecting the environment and nature in Slovakia. Its main focus is on reduction of pollution with waste and toxic substances.
